Beach K 1255 lies 3 km to the southeast deep inside Seaplane Bay. The 300 m long beach faces toward the embayment entrance and Rocky Island 3.5 km to the northeast. It occupies the mouth of a small valley with a mangrove-lined creek draining along the western side. It is backed by a low grassy overwash plain and fronted by 500 m wide tidal sand shoals then 1 km wide fringing reefs, which fill the southern half of the 1 km wide bay. Seaplane Bay provides a protected anchorage and was the site of the forced landing of the German seaplane ‘Atlantis’ in 1932. Following the landing the two pilots wandered the coast for 40 days before being rescued by aborigines while sheltering in the tunnel-cave at beach K 1241.
