Bornholm Beach (WA 433) is an exposed, high energy 2.5 km long southwest-facing beach. It is located at the base of 80-100 m high, steep vegetated slopes. It commences in the east against an irregular granite point that protrudes 200 m seaward, and continues west, wedged in between the base of the slopes and some patches of beachrock reef. It receives waves exceeding 2 m on average which break across a 200 m wide rip-dominated surf zone, with usually three large central beach rips, and permanent reef-controlled rips to either end. There is 4 WD access via the rough Lake William ‘road’ to the eastern end of the beach, and via the Shepherds Lagoon ‘road’ to the centre of the beach, with a rough 4 WD track leading down onto the beach. While this is a relatively popular beach for fishing, it is unsuitable for swimming, and should only be surfed by those experienced with such conditions.
Beach Length: 2.5km
