Curtis Bay is a slight indentation in the granite shoreline 1 km south of Castle Point. In the apex of the bay is a 60 m long pocket of sand (WA 743), bordered by intertidal granite rocks and boulders, and fronted by subtidal rocks, then the sand of the low energy bay floor. Dunsborough is the first coastal town in Geographe Bay and is located on the eastern end of the granite rocks that extend 10 km east of Cape Naturaliste. The growing town of about 1000 extends east behind the beginning of the long sandy shoreline that continues almost uninterrupted to Bunbury 60 km to the northeast. The Dunsborough beaches include two located in amongst the granite rocks (WA 744 & 745) and the two longer sandy sections (WA 746 & 747).
