Beach WA 748 commences on the eastern side of the often deflected mouth of Toby Inlet and continues much the same for 5.3 km to a rock groyne at the eastern end of Siesta Park (Fig. 4.151). The low energy beach is crossed by two drains, the small Molloy Ditch which drains Mary Brook, and the larger Carbunup River. Both drains close during the dry summer months and usually only have a low flow across the beach during the winter. The beach is backed by resort and residential development along much of its length and the Siesta Park cottages towards the eastern end. Busselton is a sizable and growing coastal town of 17 000 people set on the southern shores of Geographe Bay. The town spreads for 6 km along the bay and beach WA 749 and is located on low beach and dune deposits that have built out into the bay over the past few thousand years. It is a major regional centre and summer holiday destination and has all the facilities and accommodation that go with a popular coastal town.
