Prior to the development Wonnerup Beach (WA 754) was the eastern end of beach WA 749. It now extends from the eastern groyne east for approximately 1.8 km to the migratory mouth of Wonnerup Inlet (Fig. 4.155) The western end of the beach has been severely impacted by the bay development and has been eroding since the groynes were constructed, even following sand nourishment of the beach. In 2001 it had eroded back approximately 100 m to Layman Road, resulting in the construction of rock seawalls to protect the road and backing houses. The central-eastern part of the beach is still in a relatively natural state, with a low energy beach fronted by the transverse migratory sand ridges. It terminates at the inlet, which is usually deflected to the east by the longshore current and sand transport.
Beach Length: 1.8km
