Beach WA 471 is separated from the main beach by a protruding section of dune-draped rocks. It consists of a 300 m long sliver of sand located at the base of the steep, vegetated slopes that rise 100 m to the lee of Point Hillier, the dune originating from the southern side of the point. The beach receives refracted waves averaging less than 1 m, which break across a 50 m wide sand and rock strewn surf zone. Point Hillier and Stanley Island form the eastern boundary of an open 7 km wide south-southwest facing embayment, with the Boat Harbour headland forming the western boundary. In between is an exposed high energy section of coast consisting of eight beach remnants at the base of calcarenite cliffs and slopes rising to 150 m and all fronted by shore parallel beachrock reefs. The small sheltered Boat Harbour bay offers the only protected section of the coast. The only formal vehicle access is via a 4 WD track to Boat Harbour.
