Beach WA 502 commences on the western side of the rock outcrop and curves round in a south-facing semi-circle for 1.8 km to the lee of Herring Rock. High waves break on a mixture of bars and reefs lying up to 300-400 m offshore, with usually two central beach rips and permanent rips to either end. It is backed by steep, vegetated calcarenite, which decreases from 60 m in the east to 20 m in the west, where a 4 WD track reaches the beach. The beach terminates at a vegetated 20 m high headland fronted by an irregular gneiss rock platform.
