Salmon Beach (WA 570) is an exposed 1.4 km long, southwest-facing sandy beach, bordered by 100 m high cliffs and backed by a few new foredunes, then active dunes climbing up over the backing calcarenite and blowing several hundred metres inland. Earlier dunes have migrated 6 km inland and reached heights of 70 m. It receives waves averaging over 2 m, which maintain a 300 m wide, double bar surf zone. The inner bar is usually detached, with two large beach rips and two permanent rips to either end. A sealed road runs over the backing ridge to a lookout above the southern end of the beach and to a car park, picnic area and toilets behind the centre of the beach. Be very careful if swimming here as strong rips are always present. The beach picks up any swell and usually has several breaks out over the bars.
