Beach WA 285 is located in the central section of the 3 km of steep rocky coast that separates Twin Bay from Dempster Inlet (Beach WA 286). The beach is a 150 m long high tide boulder beach located at the mouth of two small valleys. It is fronted by an irregular 50 m wide rock platform, then by a deeper 100 m wide sandy surf zone. Dempster and Fitzgerald inlets are two elongate shallow coastal lagoon that drain Copper Mine Creek and the Fitzgerald River respectively and reach the sea that either end of beach WA 286. Both inlets are usually blocked only breaking out following heavy winter rains
